Port of Tilbury
Anchorage - Vessels for the port may anchor in any one of a number of areas including Sunk pilot, Southend and North East Spit Pilot Station off Margate.
Bunkers - Bunkering services supplied by barge and arranged through ship’s agent.
Control - The Port of London Authority’s London Port Control Centre is responsible for all aspects of navigation and pilotage on the River Thames. Tel (+44)1474 560311.
PLA Pilotage - Compulsory for all vessels of 50 metres LOA and over navigating within the PLA pilotage area – in this instance between Sea Reach No1 Buoy and the Port of Tilbury. Pilotage is also compulsory for vessels over 80 metres LOA navigating between Sea Reach No 1 buoy and the Sunk and North East Spit pilot stations. Pilotage exemption certificates, subject to exclusion are issued by the PLA. Tel (+44)1474 562333.
Port of Tilbury Radio - The harbour radio is manned 24 hours a day and listens on VHF channel 4 – call sign ‘Tilbury’, with channels 15 and 17 as the working channels.
Tides - There are no tides within the enclosed dock. The tidal range in the River Thames is up to a maximum rise and fall of 7 metres.
Towage - Through towage is provided by Adsteam Ltd. Based in Gravesend, the fleet of tugs is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Tel (+44)1474 359361.
Provision of Services
Stevedoring - The port can provide full stevedoring facilities for the handling of all different types of commodities, with specialist handling of sensitive cargo.
Warehouse facilities - The port has extensive warehouse facilities with a total of over 500,000 square metres of undercover storage. Purpose built warehousing is available for resident customers and tenants and storage for receivers is also available within the port estate.
Utilities - The service provision of electric and water.
Equipment - With its own engineering department and a large supply of equipment available to it, the port is able to offer solutions to customer’s operational needs.
Haulage - The port has a number of major haulage companies as tenants in the port offering space for lorry parks, maximising customer distribution opportunities.
