Policy Statement

The Port of Tilbury believes competitive advantage is achieved through ensuring training needs are linked to business strategy. People make an important contribution to the running of the business and their development is central to Tilbury’s success. We regard training and development as an important feature of Business Development.

Within Tilbury’s policy, workplace training plays a key role in meeting skill demands. It is a continuous process supporting organisation development.

The programmes shown below are a selection of offering only. All programmes for internal candidates are agreed through the appraisal system, management review and assessment centre open days. Programmes are also available for external candidates and course details, dates and costs are available upon request.

Personal Development

The Port of Tilbury supports and recognises many personal development programmes and is accredited to run these through the training and development team and its partners, these include:

Management and Graduate programmes:-

  • Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Team Leader level, Management level 3 and Management level 4

  • Short soft skill programmes are available for personal development, such as, communication skills, assertiveness, team building etc.

Plant Training

All instructors are experienced plant drivers and accredited RTITB instructors, who are able to offer comprehensive training, based on a syllabus that includes best practice, operational requirements and manufacturer requirements. We currently provide training for all internal operations personnel on a regular basis and for external customers, on a contract or ‘as and when’ they require basis.

  • Fork lift trucks

  • Tugs/Terbergs

  • Straddle carriers

  • Cranes

  • MEWPs
We will be operating an accredited RTITB centre with the Thurrock Basildon College as part of the Academy of Logistics and Transport.
