The London Construction Link (LCL) is a collaboration between the Port of Tilbury and S. Walsh & Sons, one of the leading construction solutions companies in London. The partnership is seeking to relieve congestion on the capital's roads, with associated cycling safety and CO2 benefits, through promoting greater use of construction consolidation and the use of the river for construction projects on or near the Thames. 

LCL builds upon the Tilbury’s pedigree as the logistics and distribution hub for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and S. Walsh’s success as the largest marine operator on the Thames. LCL is FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) Gold accredited and is supported by British Cycling and CTC.

In October 2014, LCL moved the former Battersea Power Station cranes to Tilbury. Where they will be refurbished and returned to Battersea in a few years. Since that time, two other projects have been secured.

Commenting on the project Perry Glading, Chief Operating Officer at Forth Ports said: 

“This is the first in a number of planned logistics solutions that S.Walsh is pulling together with the Port of Tilbury through our new partnership, the London Construction Link. As we've demonstrated at Battersea Power Station, the river is a viable solution for moving large structures out, as well as construction materials in to projects on or near the Thames. Lying 22 miles from Tower Bridge, with 500,000 square metres of warehouse space and well developed stock management IT systems, we believe the Port of Tilbury presents a commercially and logically viable solution for developers. Through the greater use of the river and construction consolidation, the London Construction Link has the potential to make large inroads into the effort to remove lorry movements from the capital's roads." 

Key facts: Tilbury's location makes it an excellent distribution hub for Greater London: lying 6 miles outside the M25 and 22 nautical miles from Tower Bridge with dedicated barge facilities and three rail freight heads.
